Tottenham impose vuvuzela ban at White Hart Lane

Tottenham have become the first Premier League club to ban vuvuzelas from their ground on match days.

The plastic horns, popular with football fans at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, have already been banned by some Football League clubs.

In a statement, Spurs said the decision had been made after undergoing discussions with the police and the local licensing authorities.

They club also suggested the noise could pose risks to public safety.

"We are concerned that the presence of the instruments within the stadium pose unnecessary risks and could impact on the ability of all supporters to hear any emergency safety announcements," read the statement on the club's official website.

Torres out for the season after second knee operation

Fernando Torres will miss the rest of the season after last night having a second operation on his knee.

The Liverpool striker was driven to Spain over the weekend and had surgery to repair a torn miniscus in the cartilage in his right knee.

Torres will be out for six weeks, ruling him out of the remainder of Liverpool's Premier League and Europa League campaigns.

However he will be back in time to star for Spain at the World Cup Finals in South Africa.

Man City stadium poised to become bigger than Old Trafford

Manchester City's owners are assessing plans to make Eastlands the biggest stadium in English club football.

Sunday Mirror Sport can reveal that the Abu Dhabi United Group’s blueprint to oversee a major regeneration of the East Manchester area will include a project to expand their council-owned ground.

One of the plans being discussed is to add another tier and 30,000 seats to take the capacity of the City of Manchester Stadium to almost 80,000. City’s bitter rivals Manchester United currently have the biggest ground in the Premier League, with Old ­Trafford able to hold 75,769.

Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas out for rest of domestic season

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will miss the rest of the season after cracking his right fibula in Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw with Barcelona.

Fabregas picked up the injury when he won a penalty after colliding with Barca centre-back Carles Puyol.

The Spaniard, 22, underwent a scan on Thursday which confirmed he will be out of action for at least six weeks.

William Gallas' season may also be over after he suffered a calf injury, and Andrey Arshavin also faces a spell out.

Football Association chief executive Ian Watmore quits

Football Association chief executive Ian Watmore has resigned after less than one year in the post.

Watmore, 51, who came to the FA from the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, was appointed in February 2009 but joined in June.

He resigned on Friday after a series of disagreements with senior figures on the FA board while a leaked e-mail on Saturday did little to change his mood.

The FA is due to hold an emergency board meeting at midday on Tuesday.

Watmore succeeded Brian Barwick, who left the FA at the end of 2008, and with his departure the FA has now has lost six chief executives in 11 years.
