Leg break ends Bairns defender Jackie McNamara's season

Falkirk defender Jackie McNamara is out for the rest of the season after breaking his leg while on loan at Partick Thistle.

The 36-year-old sustained the injury during Wednesday's 1-0 defeat by Ayr United at Somerset Park.

"He will see a specialist to try to determine just how serious a leg break it is," Partick manager Ian McCall told his club website.

"The best-case scenario is that he will be fit for pre-season training."

McCall added: "A leg break is obviously a bad injury at the best of times and our hope is that it is nothing more than a break and that there isn't - and we don't think there is - any cruciate ligament damage into the bargain."

Rangers 6 - 1 Motherwell

Rangers moved four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premier League with a convincing home win over Motherwell.

Kenny Miller's superb strike gave Rangers the lead early on and Kris Boyd doubled the advantage on 53 minutes.

Miller grabbed his second before Shaun Hutchinson's bulleted home a header for the visitors.

Kyle Lafferty tapped home Rangers' fourth, DaMarcus Beasley made it five and Lafferty grabbed another to complete the rout.

Rangers 3 - 0 St Johnstone

Rangers stayed in touch with Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic with a comfortable win over St Johnstone.

Kris Boyd fired the home side into a first-minute lead and grabbed a second from the penalty spot on 27 minutes after Nacho Novo had been fouled.

Novo registered his first league goal of the season in the 51st minute and also struck the woodwork.

Chris Millar had Saints' best efforts, the midfielder forcing a save from Neil Alexander in each half.

Motherwell 2 - 3 Celtic

Celtic recorded their fourth straight league win in a thrilling five-goal victory over Motherwell at Fir Park.

A Georgios Samaras strike gave Celtic the lead before Lukas Jutkiewicz back-heeled in a 26th-minute equaliser.

Mark Reynolds converted a Tom Hateley free-kick on the stroke of half-time, then Aiden McGeady levelled shortly after the break with a curling shot.

Barry Robson missed a penalty before sub Marc-Antoine Fortune's shot claimed the points 11 minutes from time.

Novo charged over alleged gesture

Rangers striker Nacho Novo has been charged with improper conduct for allegedly gesturing to Aberdeen supporters at Pittodrie last month.

The 30-year-old Spaniard was pictured with his shorts lowered beneath his buttocks as he left the pitch at the end of Rangers' 1-0 defeat.

But it is the alleged finger gesture that has landed him with a Scottish Football Association charge.
